VLADIVOSTOK, November 17, vladivostoktimes.com In Singapore at the meeting with Dmitriy MEDVEDEV, the RF President, Yukio HATOYAMA, the Prime Minister of Japan, declared that the development of Russia-Japanese relations is strategically important for Tokyo; Sergey LAVROV, the RF Minister of Foreign Affairs, informed the journalists. “In the course of bilateral summit meeting Mr. MEDVEDEV, the RF President, and Mr. HATOYAMA, the Prime Minister of Japan, were talking about the development of Russia-Japanese relations. During the talks it has become clear that the new Japanese leaders intend to stir up the cooperation with Russia and the development of Russia-Japanese relations is strategically important for them,” says Mr. LAVROV summing up the meeting. “It is the first time in the history of our cooperation when the Japanese party has made such statement and the statement is justified,” Minister adds. According to him, the statement of Japanese leaders evoked positive response at the Russian party. Besides, Mr. LAVROV notes that a wide range of issues in the field politics, trade, economics, high-technology, production partnership and cultural exchange have been discussed during the summit. “We came to realize that we should increase the cooperation in all these fields and extend it in the Russian regions and Japanese prefectures,” the RF Minister of Foreign Affairs says; RIA Novosti (News) reports. www.rian.ru Other articles in this section
