VLADIVOSTOK, November 15, vladivostoktimes.com New pattern area of Russian-Chinese collaboration will be established in border island Heixiazi Several days ago Heilongjiang province government announced its approval of the plan of development and reclamation of Heixiazi Island after the final border demarcation by Russian and Chinese parties. This program stipulates 4 functions of the island: ecological protection, port, tourism and trade. The pattern area of Russian-Chinese collaboration will be established due to mutual work of two countries in Heixiazi Island, as Renmin Rebao reports. Heixiazi Island is situated on Russian-Chinese border in the confluence of the Heilongjiang River (Amur) and the Usulijiang River (Ussuri), also known as Fuyuan delta. The island area is over three hundred square kilometers. According to “Additional agreement on eastern part of Chinese-Russian border” the island is divided into two parts. The western part which is closer to China belongs to Chinese People’s Republic. This part is still in its natural condition and it wasn’t touched by reclamation process. On October 14th, 2008 China and Russia held an opening ceremony of boundary pillar and it marked the end of the demarcation process on Chinese-Russian border which length is over 4300 kilometers. After border demarcation on Heixiazi Island, the main points are its protection and reclamation. Not so long ago the parties signed the “Development Program of north-eastern areas of China, Eastern Siberia, and the Russian Far East” which stipulates the idea of construction of the bridge over the border river, check point, and access railroad, highway, and other infrastructure objects.
