VLADIVOSTOK, November 11, vladivostoktimes.com The RF President signed the law concerning the minimum age for the local governments’ candidates; the official website of the RF President informs. Dmitriy MEDVEDEV signed the Federal Law “On Introducing of Amendments to Article 3 of the Federal Law Appendix “On Ensuring of the Constitutional Rights for the Russian Federation Citizens to Elect and be Elected to the Institutions of Local Government” and Article 4 of the Federal Law “On Basic Guarantees of Electoral Rights and the Right to Participate in Referendum of the Russian Federation Citizens.” The Federal Law was adopted by the State Duma on October 21 and approved by the Federation Council on October 30, 2009. The Federal Law is intended to specify the electoral law provisions concerning the minimum age at the local governments’ election for the Russian Federation citizens. Currently, in the most regions of the Russian Federation the age eligibility for being elected as a deputy of the municipal representative body and an elective official of the local government is 21. The Federal Law stipulates that this hands-on experience must be changed and the electing age for the deputies of the municipal representative body is 18. Concerning the minimum age for elective officials of the local governments the regulation that currently in force holds true: according to the legislation of the RF subjects any citizen of the Russian Federation who reached the age of 21 can be elected an official of the local government. To coordinate the provisions of the Federal Electoral Law the revision of Article 3 of the Federal Law Appendix “On Ensuring of the Constitutional Rights for the Russian Federation Citizens to Elect and be Elected to the Institutions of Local Government” is adopted; it includes the amendments that have been introduced to Article 4 of the Federal Law “On Basic Guarantees of Electoral Rights and the Right to Participate in Referendum of the Russian Federation Citizens.” Other articles in this section
