VLADIVOSTOK, May 8, vladivostoktimes.com The Far Eastern National University has every prospect of becoming the large nano-center both in Primorye and the Far East in a few years. Such conclusion was made by the participants of the International Conference “Joint Far Eastern Research Center of FENU and FE Brunch of RAS is the Leading Scientific Integrator of nano industries research methods,” that was held in Vladivostok. The participants from Russia, Germany, Singapore and Great Britain gathered at the conference that is arranged by FENU, FE Brunch of RAS with the assistance of Carl Zeiss, the world famous German company, and is held at the second time. “This reputable conference assembles the experts in the field of nano-technologies and let the developers and scientists from different countries share their experience, report on the findings, learn more about the new development of nano-researches and strike up the new contacts,” Vladimir PLOTNIKOV, the Head of the FENU Department of Research Work, believes. “It is logical to hold such top level conference in FENU. The University tends to become the large nano-center in the Far East. It has every prospect of achieving this aim: young and gifted staff that is supported by the University Administration and unique high tech facilities (the University allotted over 1bln.Rubles for purchasing of the modern equipment). Today the FENU Department of Physics and Information Technology is equipped with the world best devices,” he says. Maxim IGELNIK, the Carl Zeiss Top Manager in Russia and CIS, notes that FENU and FE Brunch of RAS scientists are using high tech microscopes for nano-researches that are impossible without such equipment. “Nanoparticle cannot be noticed without special equipment and FENU has such device,” the Top Manager of German concern says. He also noted that FENU is one of the five major partners of Carl Zeiss in the Asia Pacific Region. On the second conference day Rector Vladimir KURILOV presented four FENU masters-to-be and advanced students with Carl Zeiss grants. Elija SMIRNOV, Eugeniy PLEKHOV, Olga OGURTZOVA and Anna IVANOVA won the grants in the All-Russia Contest where the scientists from 25 Russian universities carried out scientific experiments in the field of nano-technology with the help of Carl Zeiss equipment. When making speech at the award presentation Vladimir KURILOV told that the University aims at setting up of the efficient in-house nano-industries and it will succeed in it thanks to the promising young scientists and high-performance facilities.
