VLADIVOSTOK, March 3, vladivostoktimes.com Vladimir Yakunin, the President of Joint Stock Company Russian Railways, participated in the conference of the railroad employees in Khabarovsk. "The Russian Railways invests 2 billion 500 thousand Rubles into reconstruction of Oune - Vysokogornaya railway section in 2008; the new Kuznetsov tunnel is also to be built at this section, " he told.   

"The total cost of the project "Reconstruction of Oune - Vysokogornaya railway section with the new Kuznetsov tunnel on the railway line Komsomolsk-on-Amur - Sovetskaya Gavan" is 59 billion 900 million Rubles," Vladimir Yakunin added.

The realization of this project will improve the carrying capacity of the railway line Komsomolsk-on-Amur - Sovetskaya Gavan that is used for transportation of domestic goods to the Far Eastern districts including Sakhalin Island and import-export goods to or from the countries of Asia-Pacific Region within the Russian Federation through the port of Vanino as well as transit cargo. The project is to be completed by 2013.

"Another important object of the Far Eastern Railway is the second stage development of the railway bridge across the Amur River in Khabarovsk. The first train is to go along the new bridge in August, 2009, on the Professional Day of the railway men," Vladimir YAKUNIN noted.

Until the year 2015 Joint Stock Company "Russian Rail Ways" intends to fund about 113 billion Rubles for development of the railway infrastructure in the Far Eastern District including 50 billion Rubles for reconstruction of the Trans-Siberian Railway and 63 billion Rubles for improvement of the Baikal-Amur Railway.

On target, in the framework of the project on development of the Russian railways till 2030, the Baikal-Amur Railway will be intended for heavy freight trains but the Trans-Siberian Railway - for passenger trains and container traffic.
