Rosneft Buys Nakhodka Port in Russia"s Far East

The No.3 Russian oil firm has amassed big oil reserves in East Siberia and wants to develop them to help Russia fill its first pipeline to Asia, which will ship 600,000 barrels per day to China and another 1 million bpd to the Pacific next decade.

MOSCOW, June 29, Reuters. Russian state oil firm Rosneft has consolidated assets in a major oil port on Russia's Pacific coast as it seeks to boost oil shipments to its key export destinations in north-east Asia, the firm said on Thursday.

Rosneft, which is seeking to raise more than $11 billion from its July IPO in London and Moscow, did not disclose how much it paid for the Nakhodka Oil Port on the Sea of Japan which it bought from mid-sized oil firm Group Alliance.

"By buying the Oil Port, Rosneft has finished setting up a united technological production complex in the Bay of Nakhodka, which will be not only among the largest in the Far East but in Russia in general," Rosneft said in a statement.

The port exports around 6-7 million tonnes of refined products, mainly fuel oil and diesel, from Russian refineries in the Far East and East Siberia to China, South Korea and Japan.

Prior to the deal Rosneft shared with Group Alliance some storage and loading facilities in the port while Alliance owned the berths.

The pipeline to the Pacific may end up in Nakhodka or neighbouring ports. Rosneft has said it may participate in building a refinery on the Pacific in order to export refined products instead of crude oil.
